Recently, scientists from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Harvard Medical School shared groundbreaking findings regarding the neural processes involved in the shaking behavior of wet dogs (as illustrated by the dog in the image above).

The Dog Photography Awards honor everything we cherish about dogs, showcasing stunning images that reflect their unique personalities and charm. This year, a remarkable 1,700 entries were submitted from over 60 countries. A panel of judges—comprising photographers, canine specialists, and industry professionals—recognized outstanding work across five categories: Action, Documentary, Dogs & People, Portraits, and Studio.

This photograph was captured during a blizzard journey from Siorapaluk—the northernmost indigenous village globally—to Qaanaaq in Greenland. Lacking GPS or cell service and with only basic English communication skills for safety against polar bears—a vintage rifle from 1940 was our only defense—we paused so my guide Ilannguaq could untangle sled ropes while our 13 Greenlandic Huskies eagerly awaited their favorite activity: running.
