With the rollout of the latest software update, iOS 18.1, Apple’s suite of AI features known as Apple Intelligence has begun to integrate across devices. This upgrade includes advanced writing tools powered by AI, summarization capabilities, smart replies, an enhanced Photos app experience, and a more intuitive Siri.
However, not all devices will be able to access these new features. While the software is now available for download in versions such as iOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1—and certain elements of this intelligence system can be utilized in US English starting Monday—only specific newer models of the iPhone are compatible with these enhancements.

Compatibility with All iPhone 16 Models and Select Variants of iPhone 15
According to information provided by Apple’s official website, all models within the iPhone 16 series—including the standard version as well as Plus and Pro variants—are currently in beta for accessing these new intelligence features. Additionally, users with an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max can also take advantage of this functionality.
If you own an eligible device running on updated software (iOS 18.1), you may join a waitlist through your Settings app to activate AI capabilities.
Unfortunately for those using an iPhone 15 Plus or earlier models—including any standard versions—their devices will not support access to these advanced features.
iPads Equipped with M-Series or A17 Pro Chips
Ipad users who possess any model featuring either an M-series chip or A17 Pro chip are also eligible for some initial functionalities associated with Apple Intelligence according to Apple’s guidelines. This includes various iterations like the latest versions of both the Ipad Pro and Ipad Air along with Ipad Mini models that meet specifications.
Conversely, standard Ipad owners will find themselves unable to utilize any aspects related to this intelligence suite unless they have upgraded beyond older generations (specifically prior than fifth generation) for both Ipad Air and Ipad Pro lines. Furthermore, only those Mini models featuring A17 Pro chips will gain access while others remain unsupported.
Macs Featuring M1 Chips or Newer Versions
If you’re using a Mac equipped with at least an M1 chip—or later—you’ll be able to leverage various functionalities offered by Apple Intelligence following installation of macOS Sequoia version 15.1 update across compatible systems including MacBook Airs and Pros along with desktop configurations like Mac Minis and Imacs among others that utilize either M-series Max chips (like Mac Studio) or even higher-end options such as those found within Mac Pros utilizing their respective Ultra chips from second generation onwards!
