No Patch Available
As reported by the CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC), this toolset contains a command injection vulnerability that enables malicious actors to execute arbitrary commands with root access on susceptible routers. The routers primarily affected appear to be manufactured by Arcadyan, a hardware company based in Taiwan. To exploit this flaw, an attacker merely needs to transmit a specifically crafted packet to the vulnerable device.
Interestingly enough, this test suite was never intended for deployment in production settings; its primary purpose was to facilitate certification program development and device validation according to CERT Coordination Center’s findings. However, it inadvertently found its way into commercial routers used in homes and potentially small businesses.
According to reports from The Hacker News, Arcadyan has not announced plans for creating a patch for this vulnerability. Consequently, other manufacturers utilizing the Wi-Fi Test Suite are advised either to eliminate it or upgrade their systems to version 9.0 or later in order to reduce exploitation risks.
